Top 12 Wedding Cake Bakeries in Seattle, WA

I’m gonna be honest with you right now: I LOVE me some good wedding cake. Seriously, just hand me a well-sliced piece of fluffy, flavorful, and heavily-frosted cake and I’ll be your best friend forever. I think I found myself in the right industry ;) Whether you have a specific vision for your wedding cake or you have literally no idea what you want (you just know you want something delicious), finding the right cake designer is key. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite local wedding cake bakeries in Seattle, some that I’ve personally worked with and some that I haven’t (yet)—including bakeries that offer vegan, organic, and gluten-free wedding cakes. Put me in the same room as any of these talented bakers and I’ll be one happy florist!

Wedding Cakes & Florals

But first, I wanted to answer one important cake-related question that also has to do with flowers—since I am, you know, a wedding florist: can you use real flowers on wedding cakes?

While you could technically place as many real flowers on your cake as you’d like, whether or not you should really depends on the types of flowers your florist uses. Many bakers recommend staying away from using fresh flowers on your wedding cake as flowers are often grown with pesticides, are inedible, and could even be poisonous; however, as a sustainability-minded florist, my grower doesn’t use any pesticides or treatments at all.

If you want fresh flowers on your cake, the following blooms are safe for that, noting that they should be locally grown and pesticide free:

  • herbs

  • marigold

  • roses

  • snapdragons

  • pansies

  • lavender

  • calendula

  • carnation

  • chamomile

  • nasturtium

  • lilac

  • sweet peas

  • tulips

I would recommend chatting with both your florist and baker about it—and if you decide that using real flowers isn’t the best route for you, then you can opt for sugar flowers instead.

Top Wedding Cake Bakers in Seattle

Locally-Sourced Wedding Cakes in Seattle

The bakeries in this section state on their websites that they use locally-sourced tools and ingredients as much as possible, which you know I appreciate as a florist who only uses local and seasonal blooms.

Flour Lane Bakeshop

Woman-owned

Locally-sourced ingredients

Gluten-free options

Flour Lane Bakeshop is one that I’ve personally worked with and adored, located in the heart of Seattle. They offer a wide variety of small to mid-size custom wedding cakes for weddings within an hour of Seattle, with all sorts of mouth-watering flavors including classics such as vanilla and chocolate, and unique options such as chai spice, earl grey, and apple spice. I am DROOLING just thinking about it. They even have gluten-free flavor options that taste just as delicious, as well as gluten-free walnut brownies if you want to go a little bit of a different route with your dessert!

Wanderlust Cupcake Co.

Small batch bakery

Locally-sourced ingredients

No artificial dyes

Wanderlust Cupcake Co. specializes in gourmet cupcakes, cakes, and dessert bars, designing the most delicious creations without the use of artificial dyes, and only in small batches. That means that every cupcake is crafted and baked with the utmost of care, thought, and intention (and flavor); you can trust that your dessert will be top-notch from the frosting to the cake itself. Wanderlust uses locally-sourced ingredients where they can, and offers gluten-free cake toppers.

Vegan Wedding Cakes in Seattle

Onto a couple of vegan wedding cake options—you’d be surprised at how hard it is to find vegan cake bakeries in Seattle of all places! Fortunately, we do have a few very highly-rated ones, although I have yet to work with them personally.

Lazy Cow Bakery

Vegan

Plant-based

Located in the Fremont neighborhood, Lazy Cow Bakery is an incredible, plant-based bakery for couples who would rather stay away from animal products as much as possible. Not only do you get a delicious, environmentally-friendly cake when you work with Lazy Cow Bakery; you’re also supporting the social justice organization that they’re associated with, Casa del Xolo—a Latinx mutual aid organization that plays an important role in the local community. They even have a free community fridge and food pantry inside their bakery, where donations are always welcome!

It’s important to note that Lazy Cow Bakery is vegan due to their moral stance against animal exploitation, rather than specifically catering for allergies—so they do have a disclaimer on their website that they can’t guarantee their items are made without or completely away from allergens such as nuts, soy, wheat, gluten, milk, or eggs. They’re made in a shared kitchen space, so cross-contamination is always a possibility.

The Flora Bakehouse

Vegan

The Flora Bakehouse in Beacon Hill isn’t a dedicated cake bakery, but they do offer a vegan coconut cake that would make for a delicious wedding cake for you and your partner! If you have guests that need vegan options as well, this probably wouldn’t be the best option for you unless you wanted to order multiple cakes to display on your dessert table.

Organic Wedding Cakes in Seattle

Next up are a couple of Seattle bakeries that do their best to use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Birch Bakery

Woman-owned

Locally-sourced ingredients

Organic ingredients

Small batch bakery

Gluten-free options

I’ll never get tired of Birch Bakery’s scrumptious creations—and the fact that they use only the finest, freshest ingredients (including completely organic dairy, as well as local ingredients) is just the cherry on top. With a vast menu of cake flavors, premium filling options (both cream & mousse), delightful ganaches, and splendid buttercreams, you have no shortage of options to choose from to build your dream dessert. They offer two types of tastings, both of which include a collection of cake flavors for you to try and plenty of toppings/fillings. If you’d like to taste more (all eight of their signature flavors), you can upgrade to their Signature Tasting!

Oh, and one more reason this bakery is so fabulous: they offer gluten-free vanilla and chocolate cake options, as well as gluten-free cookies and bars. All of their frostings are gluten-free, too! They recommend having a separate gluten-free cake for your gluten-free guests, rather than one large gluten-free cake for everyone.

Joon Sweets

Woman-owned

Organic ingredients

No synthetic dyes

No preservatives

Joon Sweets are pros at turning high-quality ingredients into one-of-a-kind cakes that will leave your guests’ begging you for more at the end of the night. With an abundance of opportunities to customize your flavors, frosting, fondant, and details (including options for macarons, sprinkles, gold leaf, fillings, buttercream flowers, cake toppers, and more), you’ll be able to create the yummiest cake for your big day! All of their pastries are Persian and European-inspired, and are made completely without synthetic dyes or preservatives.

Gluten-Free Wedding Cakes in Seattle

Onto some great wedding cake bakers in Seattle for my gluten-free friends!

Cake & Crumble

Gluten-free

Woman-owned

Locally-sourced ingredients

Okay, I’m a little obsessed with Cake & Crumble’s motto: “Secretly Gluten Free.” They claim that their treats are so delicious that you won’t even know they’re gluten-free—so if you want a fully gluten-free wedding cake that all of your guests will enjoy, this is the place to get it! Cake & Crumble uses high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients as much as possible in their made-from-scratch recipes, meaning you can be confident that all 20 of their unique flavor combinations are created with only the best of the best. You’ll love the creative names of each of their flavors—”Adulting” is a chocolate cake with salted caramel and pecan praline buttercream, and “Child’s Play” is a simple chocolate with salted peanut butter buttercream. Give me all of them, right now.

Linden Park Whisk

Gluten-free

Woman-owned

“Cake so good you won’t miss the gluten.” Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, yeah? All cakes at Linden Park Whisk are crafted with not only gluten-free ingredients, but are baked in a completely gluten-free kitchen with gluten-free tools—so you can be confident that there won’t be a molecule of gluten in sight when your cake is being made. With delightful signature flavors such as pistachio & lemon swiss meringue, dark chocolate and peanut butter swiss meringue, and yellow cake & milk chocolate swiss meringue, you and all of your guests will leave your wedding oh-so-satisfied and dreaming of the next time you get to enjoy a cake from this lovely little studio.

NW Gluten-Free Baking Co

Gluten-free

NW Gluten-Free Baking Co isn’t a dedicated event cake baker, but they do offer a delectable collection of gluten-free cakes that would be perfect for an elopement or very intimate wedding, ranging from classic vanilla to decadent chocolate to rich chocolate zucchini bundt cake. They even have a vegan chocolate cake for those with additional dietary restrictions/preferences!

Flour Lane Bakeshop and Birch Bakery (mentioned previously on this list) also offer gluten-free cake options.

More Favorite Wedding Cakes in Seattle

Lastly, I wanted to throw in two more of my personal favorite wedding cake bakers in Seattle that I would recommend to anyone & everyone. Both of these shops are incredibly talented when it comes to sugar flowers, so if you want an intricate floral design to adorn your cake, they’re the people to go to.

Cascadia Cake Design

Woman-owned

Local & sustainable ingredients

PNW-inspired flavor combinations

Heidi at Cascadia Cake Design knows her stuff—as soon as you land on her website, you’ll find a full cake guide to help you pick the right size for your group, decide how many tiers you’ll need, and learn how to cut your cake portions properly. Nothing’s worse than getting to your cake cutting at your reception, only to realize you actually have. . . no idea how to do it! She’s got a flavorful list of to-die-for cake combinations, including champagne & strawberries, PNW blackberry, Lady Bergamot, and the Bees Knees (made with chamomile tea cake and lemon white chocolate chiffon filling). I’ve really gotta stop writing about all these cakes, otherwise I’m going to go buy an entire one for myself on a whim.

Kenna Giuzio Cake

Woman-owned

Kenna Giuzio Cake is an artisan studio located in Queen Anne, and run by Kenna herself who has a unique background in interior architecture and French pastries—a combination that’s led her to be an absolutely, wildly talented cake designer and true artist. Her cakes are inspired by vintage designs, seasonal florals, and textures of all kinds, and are embellished with stunning handmade sugar flowers. I cannot recommend her enough if you’re looking for a luxury cake inspired by art of all kinds: fashion, architecture, ceramics, textures, and baking, of course!

If your mouth isn’t watering by this point, then I don’t know if you’ve actually been reading this blog post. No matter which of these Seattle wedding cake bakers you choose, you’ll be in great hands on your big day—and your guests will thank you, trust me. I’d love to be a part of your vendor team and collaborate with you on the design of your beautiful, one-of-a-kind day just like your baker will; let’s connect and chat about your luxury, sustainable wedding florals whenever you’re ready!
