Sustainable Luxury Wedding at the Four Seasons Seattle

I have to pinch myself sometimes that this is real and that this is the life I’ve created for myself. Younger me would never have even dreamed that I’d be designing florals for a wedding at the Four Seasons with a team of Seattle’s most talented wedding vendors. But here I am, living life, navigating hotel service elevators, and connecting with fabulous humans along the way.

This editorial styled bridal shoot was such an amazing start to this past year, and was the perfect way to showcase that you don’t have to choose between having a wedding that’s eco-conscious or one that’s luxury—you can absolutely have both.

A High-End Four Seasons Seattle Wedding Editorial

Sustainable luxury in the wedding industry

As an eco-luxe wedding florist in Seattle, I’m sort of always on a mission to prove that sustainability and luxury do NOT have to be mutually exclusive when it comes to the wedding industry.

One of the first things I like to tell my clients is that my floral design revolves entirely around protecting the planet, respecting the natural beauty around us, and nurturing our relationship with nature. I work only with local and seasonal flowers, and am always learning more about how to incorporate sustainable floristry practices into my work!

So when Emma from Émerveillé Events reached out to me about this high-end bridal shoot at the Four Seasons, you bet I was thrilled. I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to prove that luxury weddings can (and should) be sustainable, and that a glamorous design could be pulled off using only local and seasonal products.

Regardless of the season, it’s my job to design florals that fit your vision, exceed your expectations, and elevate your wedding—and that’s exactly what I did for this shoot.

Winter blooms, delicate textures, and glamorous details

When you think of a luxury wedding, you typically imagine bright white florals and a clean, neutral color palette. However, early February in the PNW doesn’t bring many options when it comes to florals, let alone an abundance of white—which meant I had to get creative with the blooms I used in my designs.

The vision for this shoot was an elevated, luxurious hotel wedding, with the main setup featuring a variety of free-flowing, organic shapes as well as angular pillars, a glamorous champagne tower, and white busts that felt like they were taken out of an art museum.

For my contribution to this incredible setup, dreamed up by Émerveillé Events with the help of Grand Mason Goods, I utilized a blend of early tulips, white amaryllis, blooming branches, and foraged clematis seed head. To compliment the delicate winter blooms, I used high-end vases that provided the texture and color I needed, all perfectly in harmony with the neutral, elevated color scheme of this shoot. The way the white amaryllis sprawled out of the white busts was simply stunning, giving them this almost heavenly, flower crown sort of look.

How to elevate your eco-friendly wedding florals

If you’re still unsure about how your florist can make your wedding feel sophisticated while still being committed to sustainability, here are four of the things I personally do when designing florals for my couples:

1. Use high-end vessels

Using the right vessels for my florals was one of the key design elements for this Four Seasons Seattle wedding editorial. Vases are often pieces of art themselves, especially when they are handmade by a local artist or come from a second hand vintage store. Investing in a curated collection of pieces will elevate and complement the floral designs more than any traditional vase could.

2. Embrace texture

“Luxury” doesn’t have to mean 100% white roses that were imported from South America. With an all-white color palette, for example, I’ll utilize texture and flowers en masse to create interest and an air of sophistication.

3. Don’t underestimate fragrance

When you think back on your most treasured memories, what is it that you remember first? The taste? The smells? The sounds?

Memories are often evoked by smell, so sourcing seasonal and local product allows me to get flowers at their best and most fragrant stage, elevating your wedding with the sweet delight of floral fragrance for you and your guests to enjoy every time you walk by.

4. Welcome collaboration

As your floral designer, I’ll work with you and your planner to ensure the florals fit seamlessly with items such as table linens, your venue, your photographer’s style, and the overall aesthetic of your wedding. Celebrations like these are all about communication and collaboration among everyone involved, so you can be assured that I’ll always take every element of your special day into consideration when choosing your blooms and crafting your floral design.
