Forest-Inspired Winter Wedding at WithinSodo

What if I told you that this wedding had, well. . . no flowers? I know, I know—given my profession, that might seem a little weird. But let me tell you, Regina and Geffen’s winter wedding at WithinSodo didn’t need any blooms to be breathtaking; creating arrangements entirely out of greenery for this unique celebration in the middle of January was such a fun challenge. I hope these images inspire you to think a little bit outside of the box for your special day, just like this sweet couple did!

Regina & Geffen’s Winter Wedding at Within Sodo

A whimsical, forest-inspired celebration in the city

If you can’t have your big wedding in the middle of a remote forest in the Pacific Northwest, then you might as well bring the forest to you, right? Regina and Geffen’s vision for their city celebration involved a blend of lush greenery and cool shades of winter, a color palette that I ended up labeling “shades of forest greens with a pop of blue.” They chose a January wedding date and completely leaned into the winter season, aiming for a whimsical, romantic forest vibe despite being right in the heart of the big city. Regina was a stunner in her custom ice blue wedding gown by Cicada Bridal, bringing all the magical, frosty energy of the season and turning it into a breathtaking, colorful bridal look. The blue + the greens of her bridal bouquet let the dress shine and the bouquet pop, especially against the textured walls and cobblestone streets where they took portraits around Pioneer Square. Perfection!

No Flowers? No problem!

As you might be able to assume given the fact that I am a florist, I rarely get a couple who asks for NO flowers, but Regina and Geffen were that couple. January may not yield many flowers in the PNW, but maybe your wedding doesn’t need flowers—maybe it just needs lush moss to dance on the tables, and greenery abounding to breathe a little life into the cold, dark season in Seattle. I had so much fun designing for Regina and Gefffen on their special day, not only because I got to be creative in coming up with flowerless designs, but also because they loved that I only used local, seasonal products and foam-free mechanics. They went green in their values and their color palette (but not the dress—the dress went blue and it was EVERYTHING). I love my clients!

A warm & inviting wedding at WithinSodo

Turning Regina and Geffen’s urban industrial venue into a warm, inviting atmosphere was an exciting task; we included lots of candles and decorated the walls, lights, and tables with seasonal greens. In total, their reception setup was composed of 11 long tables, each topped with 10 sprawling feet of handmade, compostable garland, which really brought that forest feel into the space. There was so much beautiful light and texture that you didn’t even miss flowers at this January wedding—who would’ve thought? The warm ambiance provided by the candles combined with the charm of the exposed brick walls, thoughtful furnishings, and unique light fixtures made this such a lovely evening for all those present, and what a gift it was to be able to bring some life into the space through all that greenery.
